How WIFI is improving Adsense/Adwords

Everday I look around and see more and more people away from home or work with computers. Sometimes they are sitting in starbucks, listening to music and browsing the internet through their T-mobile hotspot. Cafes tend to be one of the more frequent places to see people, but so too is the library or local University.

Several campuses are working to offer WIFI from anywere on campus. On a larger Scale Google is working with San Fransisco to offer WIFI city wide!

I often wonder where this will take everyone. Google already allows advertisers to choose the location of their ads. Will it be possible to narrow this down even farther? I imagine it wouldn't be to difficult to to this by tracking the physical locations of routers and then mapping what routers a person shows up on. This of course could require setting up the GPS chips (perhaps the same ones used in phones...) in all of the various routers...

it will be fun to see if this happens one day...

What can be taken from the Gaming industry...

Google Maps have some great gaming potential

Where else have useful maps been so fully intigrated but the video game industry. I think google is definitely on the right track with Google Maps. One of their latest improvements (see for yourself) added a small box in the bottom corner that allows the viewer to see a larger area of the map and what portion of that are they are looking at.

Google recently released version 2 of the Google Maps API (more) This looks to be a great improvement on an already great product. My favorite part of this is their elimination of the obnoxious page view limit. As a developer of large sites, this no longer will hinder my work. Another fun point to make is that this opens the door for some impressive operations...

Buzz.Blogger list some great technologies

Another blog I have been watching posted some information on video blogs. buzz.blogger.com This blog links to a step by step guide for setting up video blogs. They also buzz about a penpal site that looks like it has potential.

It would be great to see all of this incorporated into a realistic gaming environment. Google released a game on the da Vinci Code (view) recently, but I am thinking of a heavier blend of real life. I have heard of large companies releasing games blended with the real world. Kind of a mix between geocaching and complex online puzzles.

It will be fun to see what people come up with next.

WiFi in Your Neck of the Woods!

Spending hours online has its drawbacks. If you don't have a laptop and a wireless hotspot, you are stuck in the same place/room, unable to leave without risking connectedness withdrawels. It is of course better with a laptop. It is possible to go to your local library or university and get free wireless internet, or you can pay for a t-mobile account and get access at Starbucks.

If you live in the northwest, a new option has come around, but it has its drawbacks. Clearwire is a great new company that finally gives some competition on the broadband internet front against Comcast.

It will be good to see how things in San Fransisco work out with Google and their WiFi project.
