Didn't You Hear? The Google backlash begins
In this month's Business 2.0, writer Chris Taylor slams Google for missing projected forecasts and is quick to mention that the once little company that could is being scrutinized for getting Huge and is soon to face some major competition from a German venture to build a search engine...
Well, I for one am not worried for the company's success. It was only a matter of time before someone started to wonder about the anti-monopoly laws and buying a rival firm does raise questions.
Symantec would be slammed if they tried to buy out mcaffee, but no one really batted an eye when they purchased Veritas, a company that was both equal in terms of employees, but also in terms of revenue.
Perhaps, Google will be successful in the purchase, perhaps they won't. It will be interesting to watch as DoubleClick is a large company they are by no means Google major competition. They are no Yahoo, or MSN.
I think google will continue to see growth in other areas, such as expanding the language options. Business 2.0 had a fascinating graph in one of their recent publications that demonstrated internet usage and population on a world map. Obviously the US was way up there, but so too was Japan and Korea, most of western Europe was lit up. Iceland has a huge percentage and australia wasn't doing so bad... Africa on the other hand could hardly be seen... Just think of China... they are becoming more and more liberal all the time. Lets just hope that they continue to let the outside world in.
The point is though that the world is a big place. some 70 percent of the world's population that uses the internet is not located in the united states. English isn't even the prominent language on the globe. If services can be developed to help those who are elsewhere, there is some money to be made... One step at a time Google is doing this. Most recently by adding Bulgarian and Serbian to their portfolio.
Adsense users everywhere stand to gain from this. Many are preparring to see big paychecks, and others are scrambling to optimize their ad placements there is room to grow and room to be gained.
